Craving dessert? Simple Bakes with flour, sugar, and basic ingredients for a perfect afternoon treat.


What are some essentials for simple bakes?


While each dessert is unique, there are a few key ingredients that are sure to appear over and over again. Lucky for you, most of these probably already reside in your kitchen! If not, here’s a starter pack for those of you who want to get more into baking:


  • All-purpose flour

  • White sugar

  • Brown sugar

  • Eggs

  • Baking soda

  • Baking powder

  • Unsalted butter

  • Vanilla extract


Now that you’re ready to go, here are some simple recipes that won’t require you to leave your house!


What are some easy baking recipes?


While these are customizable and can be changed, here are a few classic desserts that are mouth-watering and delicious.


Chocolate Chip Cookies

Because who doesn’t love a good chocolate chip cookie?


  • 1 cup softened butter

  • 1 cup white sugar

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda, 2 teaspoons hot water

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 2 cups chocolate chips (our personal favorite is semisweet!)


Instructions


  • Preheat the oven to 350°F or 175°C.

  • Combine the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar. Add and mix in the eggs one at a time. Stir in your vanilla extract.

  • Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to the batter with salt.

  • Stir in flour and chocolate chips. If you’re feeling creative, feel free to put in some nuts to add texture to your cookies!

  • Use a spoon to lay them out onto pans.

  • Bake for about 10 minutes (can be changed, depending on if you like your cookies soft or crispy!)



Banana Bread


Simple Bakes  - Banana Bread

A true crowd-pleaser. Whether you make one pan or multiple, they are sure to be gone by the end of the day.


  • 2-3 mashed ripe bananas (a great time to use those bananas that haven’t been eaten yet!)

  • ⅓ cup melted butter

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • Pinch of salt

  • ¾ cup sugar

  • 1 beaten egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1½ cups flour


Instructions


  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Butter a loaf pan.

  • Stir in melted butter into the mashed bananas.

  • Mix in the baking soda and salt. Stir in the sugar, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix in the flour. Optional: take some of those chocolate chips to add an even sweeter taste!

  • Bake for 60 minutes, or until your tester comes out clean. Let cool before enjoying!



Vanilla Cupcakes

This childhood favorite is about to make a comeback. Who knew it was this easy?


  • 1½ cups flour

  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup softened butter

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • ½ cup milk


Instructions


  • Preheat oven to 350°F and line a cupcake pan with paper liners.

  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  • Beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add in eggs one at a time. Stir in vanilla.

  • Alternate adding flour and milk, beginning and ending with the flour.

  • Spoon the batter into the paper liners.

  • Bake for about 18-20 minutes. Cool the cupcakes before enjoying!


Scones


Simple Bakes - Scones

For breakfast, lunch, and dinner, please!


  • 2 cups flour

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup butter cut into pieces

  • ½ cup heavy cream

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions


  • Preheat oven to 400°F or 200°C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  • Add the cold butter pieces to flour until the mixture has lots of crumbs.

  • Whisk together heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour over the flour mixture and stir until combined. Optional: add in nuts, dried fruit, or chocolate!

  • Cut the dough into 8 wedges.

  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool and enjoy!
